Jim was born and raised in Los Angeles. He started his own design studio shortly after college and wore any hat necessary to keep it a going concern for 16 years. During the last five years of his sole proprietorship he taught design and typography at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, commuting there and back and teaching one day a week. He closed his studio and put his teaching career on hold to join The Capital Group Companies, where he continues to be happily employed.
